Day 4

Ravello to Bomerano

There are two routes to choose from today, though they share the first 8.5km round one of the upper paths of the Valle delle Ferriere

Option A: Ravello to Amalfi then bus: 13km, 5.5hrs; ascent 530m / descent 865m

Overview:

From Ravello you walk past isolated farms and along a panoramic path to enter the Valle delle Ferriere nature reserve, a lush valley in which salamanders, red woodpeckers, giant ferns and the insect-eating Pinguicola hirtiflora can be found. The path contours the Lattari Mountains, affording splendid views.

Option A follow quiet lanes and pathways through the suburbs of Ravello & Scala towards Campidoglio and then into the nature reserve of the Valle delle Ferriere, with its rich vegetation and splendid views. Rocky paths contour the high, open Lattari mountains, crossing several small streams before reaching the far side of the valley.

In this area, waymarking is sparse and often camouflaged by the heavy vegetation, meaning you will need to pay attention to navigation. However, the routes chosen are rewarding and not too difficult to follow, as long as you keep the notes and maps handy.

From Pogerola, take a stepped pathway to reach historic Amalfi, which you have time to explore before catching the bus (45mins; pay locally) to Bomerano.

Food & Drink

We have not included a picnic for today so that you can buy your own at local shops or bars – we suggest doing this in Ravello, as there will not be much choice during the walk. Bar and snack facilities are available towards the end of the route, in Pogerola (option A) or San Lazzaro (option B).

Important

Attention to navigation is required in the Valle Ferriere as previously stated, due to potentially overgrown paths or missing waymarks.

Please have your luggage ready for collection in the Reception area of your Ravello hotel by 1000.
